Portrait Pricing

During a typical 2 hour shoot, we will provide proofs for up to 100 photos.  You then decide which photos you want to buy, and if you want to buy them as digital negatives, printed products, or both.

Some examples follow.

1 digital negative

$175 (sitting fee) + 1 digital license ($200) = $375

1 unframed A4 print

$175 (sitting fee) + $100 (1 x print license) + $25 (1 x unframed A4 print) = $300 (note with print licenses you don’t get the digital negative)

4  unframed A4 prints of the same photo

$175 (sitting fee) + $100 (1 x print license) + $100 (4 x unframed A4 print) = $375 (note with print licenses you don’t get the digital negative)

4  unframed A4 prints of different photos

$175 (sitting fee) + $250 (4 x print license) + $100 (4 x unframed A4 print) = $525

1 digital negative + an unframed A4 print

$175 (sitting fee) + $200 (1 x digital license) + $25 (1 x unframed A4 print) = $400

All 100 shots as digital negatives, + a web page for sharing with family and friends

$175 (sitting fee) + $1000 (digital negative package) = $1175

A 40 page photo book featuring the majority of the shots

$175 (sitting fee) + $500 (print license package) + $165 (40 page layout and design) + $210 (1 x 40 page book) >= $1050

The same as above, but with 3 copies of the book

$175 (sitting fee) + $500 (print license package) + $165 (40 page layout and design) + $630 (3 x 40 page book) >= $1470

A 40 page photo book featuring the majority of the shots, all 100 digital negatives + a web page for sharing with family and friends

$175 (sitting fee) + $1000 (print license package) + $165 (40 page layout and design) + $105 (per copy of the book, they are currently 50% off) >= $1445

How it works

Traditionally, photographers bundle all of their costs together into a single product cost.  This makes it simple to understand, but but not very flexible in this modern age of digital photography.  Our prices separate the cost of your sitting fee, photo licenses and  print products.  Here’s how it works:

Sitting Fee

The sitting fee covers the cost of us coming to your home and taking the shots, but not the purchase of any licenses.

Photo Licenses

A photo license must be purchased for each photo you wish to print with us or own digitally.  The license covers the cost of processing and creative design.  A typical 2 hour photo shoot will involve around 1 full day of processing, design and administration.

You can choose between a digital and a print license.  With a digital license, we’ll give you a JPG copy of your photo.  You also get the right to print copy and share it as much as you like.  A print license is for use with any of our printed products.  However, you will not get a digital copy to keep.  Also, you can’t reproduce, copy or share a print license.  A print license is not required if you’ve bought a digital license.  You only pay a photo license once, and then can use it in accordance with the license as many times as you like.

Print Products

Print products include all the physically printed products such as frames, books, albums, prints.  They also include newer digital options such as websites and photo clouds.  We don’t add much of a margin to our print products, because we want you to be able to buy them for friends and family, or change what you have in your home, for prices that are similar to what you could get on the high street.

Before purchasing a print product, you must purchase a license for the photos you want to use with them.  If you purchase a digital license, you don’t have to print your photos with us and are free to take them to your favourite supplier and print them yourself.  That said, we pride ourselves on finding the highest quality, most innovative products available, some with 70 year guarantees!  We will also reprocess your photos specifically for the printed medium, ensure the highest quality and colour calibration, manage the ordering process, and take the risk of things going wrong!

Please note that pricing can change at any time, and costs are not confirmed until a quotation is issued.   If you would like to provide a quote in advance of your shoot, please contact us.
