Since our rebranding last year, we have been working hard to improve the global ranking of Dygiphy’s website, and recently peaked with an Alexa Ranking of 8 million (of 1.8 billion) websites in the world.
What is an Alexa Ranking
The Alexa Ranking is calculated using statistics collected from real world web browsers, and is considered one of the most reliable measures of a website’s global importance.
Most websites don’t even get an Alexa ranking because they receive too few visitors, or are completely invisible to the system. To even have a ranking is a good thing regardless of what it is!
Alexa is an Amazon owned subsidiary company that provides analytical data to companies around the world to help them improve the performance of their websites.
How Dygiphy did it
Some time back I wrote an article about the SEO scams that were costing small businesses thousands of dollars a year without results.
As well as discussing what not to do, this article provides 10 important tips on how you can improve your Google page rankings, which in turn increases traffic to your website.
The two most important factors are backlinking and unique content.
Backlinks are links to your website that are published on other websites.
When considering the importance of backlinks, search engines like Google consider the holistic content of both the source website and the one it links to, and decides if that link is credible.
To be credible the content needs to be relevant. A link from a medical website to a sports betting website would be given less weight than one from a medical website to a hospital website.
If you are a Dygiphy customer, you are already getting a backlink. Every website we create gets a unique page on our website, with exclusive and relevant content that links back to your website, and you are able to edit the information it contains.
Google wants you to write unique content that adds value to the internet. It penalises copy and paste, and rewards well written original content that provides citations to relevant sources.
This is true for all media types including text, photos and videos. Google knows when content has been plagiarised regardless of how cleverly it has been disguised. There are even tools that you can use to check if your content is too similar to other content.
How do I get Backlinks and Unique Content for my Website
The best strategy to achieve an Alexa Ranking for your website is very dependant on the type of business you run.
The most important thing to do is focus on publishing content, and the simplest way to do this is by having a blog on your website.
Our more advanced clients also include some form of content management system (CMS) on their sites. This enables them to easily migrate large amounts of existing information about their business onto the web in a form that is very easy for website visitors to search and cross reference.
Gaining backlinks is harder. Participating in online forums in which you are able to provide a backlink which is surrounded by unique and relevant content is the simplest option.
A more advanced option is to employ a social media strategy that increases the visibility of your website content across a wider spectrum of channels.
